Privacy Policy: Total Sports News

This Privacy Policy explains how Numa Technologies Corporation ("Numa", "we", "us"), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, collects, uses and shares personal information on Total Sports News at totalsportsnews.com (the "Site"). We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its fair information principles.

1. Accountability

2. What we collect

  • Account information: name or display name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash) and, if you turn it on, two-step verification data. Accounts are shared across the Total AI Sports sites, so this is the same account information those sites use. Your shared profile may also hold details you chose to add there, such as country, favourite sport or birthdate.
  • What you post: comments, votes, member posts and story Submissions (including any photos you upload), with the time they were posted.
  • Customization settings: the sports, story kinds, regions, levels, languages, sources and leagues you pick. Signed in, they're saved to your account. Signed out, they stay in your browser (local storage and a settings cookie) and are sent with your page requests so the Site can apply them.
  • Location (optional): see section 3.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser type and the pages requested, recorded in standard server logs; security tokens; cookies described in section 7.
  • Messages you send us, for example takedown or privacy requests.

3. Customization & location

Location is opt-in. We ask your browser for your location only when you turn on "Use my location", never when a page loads. The browser rounds the position to about 11 km before sending it, we round it again, and we use it only to find the nearest town. We save that general area (for example "Regina, SK"), its province or state and country, and at most the first three characters of a postal or ZIP code. We never store or log your exact coordinates, and we don't use your location for ads or analytics. "Forget my location" on the Customization page removes it at any time, and deleting your account deletes your settings. You can also type a town or postal code instead.

Your profile's favourite sport, country and the sports in your fantasy leagues (from fantasy.totalaisports.com) may be used to suggest settings. Suggestions are only applied automatically if you turn that on, and Total Sports News never changes your profile. If your profile shows you are under 18, betting stories stay hidden.

4. Why we use it

  • To run your account, sign you in securely and keep it safe (including fraud, spam and abuse prevention and rate limits).
  • To show comments, votes and published Submissions with your display name.
  • To personalize headlines and Local News using your settings.
  • To moderate content, respond to requests and enforce our Terms and Acceptable Use Policy.
  • To keep the Site working and improve it, using our own server logs. We don't use third-party advertising or analytics trackers on the Site.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.

5. Consent

By creating an account or using a feature, you consent to the uses described here for that feature. Location and auto-applied suggestions need you to switch them on. You can withdraw consent at any time (for example by turning location off, deleting settings or closing your account), subject to legal or contractual limits; some features may not work without the information they need.

6. Who we share it with

  • Publicly: your display name with comments, votes where shown, member posts and published Submissions.
  • Other Total AI Sports sites operated by Numa, which share the same account system.
  • Service providers that process information on our behalf under contract, for example email delivery and bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile on some forms). Our servers are located in Saskatchewan, Canada. Some providers may process information outside Canada (for example in the United States), where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
  • When required by law, to protect rights, safety or property, or as part of a merger, financing or sale of the business under confidentiality obligations.

Publishers don't receive your personal information when you read a headline; when you click through, the publisher's own site and policy apply.

7. Cookies and browser storage

We use cookies and local storage that are needed for the Site to work: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, a security (CSRF) token, and settings cookies/local storage for your customization choices and "For you / Near me" views. We don't use advertising cookies. Blocking these may stop sign-in or customization from working.

8. How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account is open. Comments and Submissions stay published until you or we remove them; removed comments are kept hidden for a limited time for moderation and legal purposes. Customization settings are deleted when you reset them or close your account. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.

9. Security

We use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, optional two-step verification, access controls and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as PIPEDA requires.

10. Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent or ask us to delete your account by emailing privacy@totalaisports.com. We'll respond within 30 days. If you aren't satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

11. Children

The Site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

12. Changes

We'll update the "Last updated" date and version when this policy changes and give notice of material changes on the Site or by email.

13. Place data credit

Place names and postal-area data come from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Town lookups run on our own server; no location is sent to GeoNames or any other third party.
